Uoma is a versatile typeface primarily for editorial and branding purposes. It is an elegant sans-serif with high variation in contrast, both properties usually connoted with serif designs. The most striking feature is probably the ink traps: cuts into letters to compensate for dark spots when two stems touch each other. Although very characteristic when displayed large, they disappear at reading sizes and ensure an even color on the page.
Uoma was conceived and designed at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague as part of the Type]Media master’s program. The project was supervised by teachers such as Françoise Berserik, Peter Biľak, Erik van Blokland, Petr van Blokland, Paul van der Laan, Christoph Noordzij, Just van Rossum and Peter Verheul.
